Who are the Woo?

Katherine Derby and Annie Keazer
Derb
Lead vocal | guitar Based out of Portsmouth, NH, Derb has been entertaining audiences since she was 16 years old when she joined her first band. She comes from a musical family and started playing in her grandfather's orchestra on the clarinet and later the saxophone at age 11. She began playing guitar at 13 and sitting in with her father's bluegrass/country friends around the campfires. Perhaps that's why you'll hear hints of both bluegrass and jazz in her powerful voice. After high school, Derb headed to UVM to become a music teacher where it became apparent her voice was better suited to belting out classic folk/rock songs rather than singing in classical ensembles. Today, Derb has a full-time day job in Communications and Marketing but can't give up her love of the spotlight. Now, it's all about the music and playing songs that she and Annie love. Annie
Lead guitar | backup vocals A 603 native until 2015 when she transplanted to Gorham, Maine, Annie’s path to playing guitar publicly (outside of school jazz band and family campfires) began when she was 37 and Derb asked her to join her for an upcoming gig at Mainestreet, Ogunquit. Annie has played various instruments since age 7, but guitar has been the one constant. She credits the bulk of her guitar training to the two years she was taught by local (NH) singer/songwriter, Eric Sinclair, but musical genes run in her family. Her brother, Jason Keazer, played keyboards for local 80’s cover band, Gazpacho and currently plays keyboards for progressive metal band, Divine Regale. Her mother has an incredible ear, both vocally and on the piano, and her father was a drummer and guitar player. Her great-uncle, Dick Taylor played trombone and bass, touring with the Gene Krupa Orchestra. Annie has always been equally interested in music and sports, but struggled to balance the two. In 2011, a knee injury forced her to give up playing basketball and freed up the time needed to focus on playing music publicly, bringing about the Woo! Girls. Annie has spent the past 20 years filling various roles in the web and mobile development world. Outside of her 9-5 gig, Annie’s true passions are enjoying life with her fiancé, (Author of the lesbian romance novels, ‘Laurel Cove’, & ‘Unlocking Rosin Manor’, both by Sarah Turtle), spending time with their families, friends, and brood of goofy pets. |
